The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off within the next few weeks.
The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini took to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of an investigation project. Once it returned to earth the carbon fiber was then sculpted into this unique artwork. The physical component includes an NFT serial code that links to the digital art work via a QR code located on the back.
For those not in the know, NFTs are distinct identifiers stored on a blockchain ledger and tied to a digital asset such as a video, image or any other recording. This allows owners to ensure the authenticity, scarcity, and trackability of their tokens over the internet.

The physical element of the Space Key

Developed in collaboration with an unknown artist and artist, the NFT is a collectible item that will be auctioned off in just a few weeks time. Its underlying structure is comprised of an advanced carbon fibre composite material, which was delivered to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a study. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to form the basis of each Space Key, which is connected to an exclusive, digital artwork using a QR code on its backside. Only five Space Keys were produced.
NFTs are unique identifications that are recorded in distributed ledgers, like the Blockchain, and connected to digital assets such as images. It's a hot topic among people who have more money than common sense. It was only an issue of time before automakers decided to cash in.
Space Key is made up of five parts. It was developed using a carbon fiber composite that was sent to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will come with a QR code which links it to a special digital artwork created by the same artist. More details will be shared in the coming weeks and days including the name of the artist along with the digital artwork and how to buy one of the five Space Keys.
The digital artwork
After months of social media posts that hinted at it, luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Key is a collection of five physical objects that will unlock a special digital art by the yet to be identified artist. Created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) The "collector's item" is limited to just five units and will be auctioned off shortly.
Each Space Key contains a block composed of a carbon-fire composite material. It was sent to the International Space Station as part of a research project in 2019. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved with a QR codes that connect to the digital component in the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that occurs only seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.
Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera to take each of the individual images, that were then merged to create the final image. The result is a truly out of this world photograph that captures both the beauty of Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and time of the event hasn't been revealed yet.
